Our History

Assin Manso Senior High School, until 1971, was a 4-year Teacher Training College, called Assin Manso Training College (AMANSCO). The College (Assin Manso Training College) was established in 1965 during Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s regime in accordance national policy through the collaborative efforts of the then Omanhene of Assin Apimanim Traditional Area, Nana Kwame Nkyi XI and Mr. Michael Asiedu (an indigenous son of Assin Achiase) who was then the chief Director of the Ministry of Education. Mr. T. E. K. Arhinful was the first Principal of the college. By Government decision, most of the community-based Training Colleges were abolished and, in line with this, Assin Manso Training College was converted into a co-educational secondary school in September 1971 during General Ignatius Kutu Acheampong’s regime. The rebirth of Assin Manso Senior High School(AMASS) from Assin Manso Training College(AMANSCO) was through the efforts of the Late Omanhene Barima Kwame Nkyi XII and his intimate friend Nana Obiri Yeboah (known in private life as Mr. Baidoo), then Omanhene of Afutuakwa Traditional Area, who was also Deputy Speaker of Parliament. Mr. T. E. K. Arhinful, the then Principal of Assin Manso Training College, became the Headmaster of the newly established Secondary School (Assin Manso Secondary School). The school is now situated on top of a hill about 500 metres North-West of Assin Manso on the Cape Coast/Foso/Kumasi Trunk Road. Assin Manso is about 56 km (36 miles) from Cape Coast. The vast land that serves as the permanent site of the school was donated by the Late Nana Kwaku Afrifa the then Adontenhene of Assin Apimanim Traditional Area.
